The Academy of Behavioral Health and Wellness provides a culturally responsive Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) designed to support individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. The program combines evidence-based treatment with culturally informed practices that recognize and respect the traditions, values, and lived experiences of American Indian and Alaska Native individuals. Through structured group sessions, individual counseling, skills training, and case management, the program helps clients build practical recovery tools, strengthen emotional wellness, and reconnect with supportive community and cultural resources.
A central focus of the program is culturally centered education and healing. Teaching modules incorporate themes such as cultural identity, generational resilience, community responsibility, and traditional pathways to wellness (often referred to as “Walking the Red Road”). By integrating culturally meaningful discussions and recovery principles, clients are encouraged to rediscover personal strengths, rebuild purpose, and develop healthier coping strategies that support long-term sobriety and mental health stability.
Services provided through the program may include psychoeducation, relapse prevention training, life-skills development, peer support, community psychiatric supportive treatment, and coordination of medical and behavioral healthcare services. Clients are also supported in addressing social determinants of health such as housing, employment, financial stability, and access to healthcare resources. This comprehensive approach helps individuals stabilize their recovery, improve daily functioning, and reintegrate successfully into their communities.
Overall, the Academy’s IOP program aims to create a safe, respectful, and culturally affirming environment where individuals can heal from addiction, strengthen their behavioral health, and build a sustainable path toward recovery and wellness.

Currently our Clinic is servicing all patient who are enrolled in the American Indian Health Program via AHCCCS.
